Welcome to Sandbukt

Sandbukt, in Tårnet, Jarfjord, 30km east of Kirkenes, 69°40′26″N30°26′0″E

In this area you find the oldest mountains in Norway. Jarfjordgneis, Humpegneis

2,9 billion yrs. old pre-existing rocks, Migmatite , also known as diatexite.

The common known translation of the name of the fiord, Jarfjord, comes from the western-sami language, called Northern-sami.

The Nothern-sami name of the fiord is Ruovde vuotna, and in norwegian - Jarfjord (lead from the norwegian words, Jarn and fjord) In english, Iron-fiord.

But when we really seek the origin of the name of the fiord, Jarfjord, we need to look into an eastern-sami language called, skolt-sami

Old skolt-sami people in Jarfjord told my family two generations ago how the name of the fiord origins.

It's from a skolt-sami word for mountains, hills or peaks in combination with the fiord, which describes the special scenery in Jarfjord.

I'm not sure about the correct spellling of the name in the skolt-sami language, but the pronunciation of the name of the fiord was similar to Ruovde vuotna in nothern-sami.

And the translation into Norwegian later on is done by nothern-sami and norwegian historians, so therefore Ruovde vuotna, Jarfjord, Iron-fiord.
